Structured Data: Where No Report Has Gone Before

in General / Tips

When I bring Monarch to the attention of those who are not familiar with it, I often compare it to a feature of Star Trek’s fictional communicators. They included a universal translating system that allowed for free communication when one party didn’t speak (or otherwise communicate in) the native language of the other.

Monarch performs a similar task. Monarch’s specialty is in converting messy unstructured data that spread all over reports into useable, organized, structured data. It also helps you take data from one source and place it in another, and frees you from the technical knowledge of what’s really happening behind the scenes (SQL, JET, ODBC and more).

It’s like being able to just enjoy being a Voyager without being a Star Fleet mechanic.

Accomplishing your data tasks recently became even easier as Datawatch began to Deep Space v9, and welcomed v10, the Next Generation of Monarch. One of the new features helps you with the task of building extraction templates, the key behind Monarch’s report mining ability, so that you no longer need to possess the technical knowledge and trickery of a Chief Engineer to get your reports modeled at warp speed.

Be a Data Commander

Once you’ve gathered all of your data just as easily as collecting Tribbles, you’ll find that Monarch makes it easy to filter it all, and you won’t even need the logical mind of a Vulcan to do it.

Security Officer on Board

Monarch handles secure data sources easily and even allows you to create RC4 or AES level passwords for the PDF files that Monarch exports. The Borg might be able to assimilate that data without a password, but good luck to you if you’re merely human.

Make Analysis a Number One Priority

Not only can Monarch extract data, but it makes analyzing it as easy as setting a phaser to stun. Being able to build multiple summary presentations of the data that are optionally tied to particular pre-defined filters elevates Monarch from being a simple extraction, transformation and loading (ETL) tool to being a super powered machine that doesn’t even require dilithium crystals. With Monarch you can scrutinize conditions even faster than Q!

Upscale to the Enterprise

Your Monarch skills are absolutely valuable in and of themselves. But they are really precious cargo when your organization adopts Datawatch’s other solutions. Their tools such as Data Pump Pro, Monarch:RMS and Datawatch:ES are built on Monarch technology, so you’ll have a great advantage and be ready for promotion.

Don’t be a cling-on to your IT department. Free yourself from a universe of holodeck-like problems and transport successfully to a destination of engaging, hassle free productivity. Lock in your coordinates and excel with Monarch.
